The Cod Grounds Commonwealth Marine Reserve is an Australian marine reserve that was proclaimed on May 10, 2007 to protect an endangered population of sand tiger sharks off the coast of New South Wales . It is under the administration of the Commonwealth, the Australian federal government.

In this protected area, in front of the coastal town of Laurieton with a size of about 300 hectares , any form of fishing is strictly prohibited. The reserve has a radius of 1000 m around the geographic point 31 ° 40 '52 "  S , 152 ° 54' 37"  O coordinates: 31 ° 40 '52 "  S , 152 ° 54' 37"  O . The area known as Cod Grounds has a series of underwater peaks with sand-filled crevices or channels where female sand tiger sharks have been observed in exceptional numbers. This area is home to the largest population of sharks discovered on the New South Wales coast .

The creation of this protection zone is part of the Recovery Plan for the Gray Nurse Shark from 2002 to protect this species of shark.

The reserve is monitored and monitored by the Australian Government's Department of the Environment, Water, Heritage and the Arts with high technical effort.
