Colin R. Townsend

Colin R. Townsend (* 1949 ) is a New Zealand biologist , ecologist and professor in the Department for Zoology at the University of Otago , New Zealand. Together with Michael Begon and John L. Harper , he wrote the textbook Essentials of Ecology, which is also widely used in German-speaking countries .

Colin Townsend mainly works on environmental issues. He investigates the effects of multiple stress factors on ecosystems, deals with the ecology of invasive species , the influence of land use on rivers and the effect of flow deviations on river ecosystems.
