Polanco

The Colonia Polanco is a northwestern district of Mexico City and belongs to the Miguel Hidalgo district . Polanco has been one of the upscale neighborhoods in the city for several decades. The most important streets of Colonia Polanco are Avenida Presidente Masaryk and Campos Eliseos. Although Polanco is largely a residential area, there are also some offices and retail stores. Many foreign embassies have settled in Polanco, including Australia and Austria. The German embassy was also based in Polanco for a long time, but in 2006 it moved to a new building in the adjacent Colonia Los Morales. Polanco is also known for the settlement of luxury hotels on Campos Eliseos, where the Hotel Nikko, Hotel Presidente InterContinental and the W Hotel are in the immediate vicinity, and the JW Marriott Hotel is not far from there.

population

Due to the relative safety in the district and the pleasant surroundings, Polanco is also very popular with expats of various nationalities. Due to the high rental and purchase prices, you will mainly find Mexicans from wealthy classes in Polanco.

architecture

Although some unsightly high-rise buildings from the 1960s and 70s dominate the image of Polanco, you can still find very beautiful old houses in colonial style. The architecture has recently become more attractive again. Several houses in modern Mexican style have been built, including the Palacio Hierro.

Shopping

In Mexico, the American influence can be felt more and more, so the trend is moving away from the small specialized shops to large shopping malls. There are several such malls in Polanco itself:

  • Palacio Hierro
  • Pabellon Polanco
  • Centro Comercial Antara
  • Plaza Carso (Sak's Fifth Avenue)
