Color Electronic Prepress System (CEPS) stands for a number of proprietary computer systems in prepress, with which the acquisition, display, processing, combination, storage and output of separated digital “multicolored” image data was possible for the first time.

history

In 1977 the Israeli company Scitex launched one of the first CEPSs called Response 300 . Other well-known manufacturers followed, such as B. Crosfield Electronics with Magnascan (1978) and the Dr.-Ing. Rudolf Hell GmbH with the ChromaCom (1979).

Data formats

The abbreviation CEPS is also used for the data formats generated . The Scitex system stores the pixel-based image data as CT / LW : an image file for continuous tone ( continuous tone , CT) with 8-bit color depth and a monochrome (1 bit color depth ), run-length coded file for bar elements ( linework , LW).
