from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A combo drive or combo drive is a DVD - and CD - drive that can read DVDs and CDs, but CD-R and CD-RW burning (describe) can. The term is now also used for Blu-ray drives that read Blu-rays, DVDs and CDs, but can only write DVDs / CDs.

The word combo drive was originally used by Apple for its own series, but was later adopted by other manufacturers. Apple calls a drive that can burn DVDs a SuperDrive .

Often times, these combos cannot read all DVDs correctly. In particular, it is reported that DVDs that you have burned yourself are not read.
