Comgás is a Brazilian natural gas and oil company headquartered in São Paulo , São Paulo . The company is listed in the IBOVESPA financial index . Comgás was founded in 1872.

The company mines and sells natural gas and mineral oil to over 420,000 customers (as of 2004). Comgás has around 3,900 km of natural gas and oil piplines.

Until April 1999 Comgás belonged to the state-owned company Companhia Energética de São Paulo (CESP). CESP was sold to the British energy company BG Group and the oil company Royal Dutch Shell . Comgás continues to sell natural gas as a franchiser for 30 years with the possibility of exercising this for another 20 years.
