NI CompactDAQ
CompactDAQ (abbreviated cDAQ ) refers to a platform for data acquisition from National Instruments . It is a modular platform; H. Each cDAQ can be configured individually using modules for the required types of measurement data.

CompactDAQs consist of a chassis and I / O modules.
chassis
The chassis is used for communication between the PC and the I / O modules. There are the following variants:
- USB chassis as a portable, modular solution
- Ethernet chassis as a solution for distributed systems
- Wireless chassis as a solution for distributed systems without cabling
In addition, there are also chassis that contain a CPU and on which a real-time operating system ( Linux based on Ångström-Linux or OpenEmbedded ) or Microsoft Windows (in the embedded version) run. B. can be operated for machine control. This brings you close to the similarly structured CompactRIO platform , but in contrast to this, there is no FPGA .
Modules
The I / O modules (so-called C series) are identical to those of the CompactRIO platform , although not all modules available for CompactRIO are operated in the cDAQ chassis, as there is no FPGA and thus the possibility for high signal processing speeds. In particular, high-speed digital modules cannot be operated in the cDAQ.
software
The modules can be addressed via the DAQmx driver from the LabVIEW graphical development environment or via an API (for C , C ++ , C # and VB.NET ). Chassis with CPU and Windows operating system can also be developed directly on the cDAQ.
For programming the real-time capable chassis with controller, LabVIEW with real-time module is required.
Applications
CompactDAQs are primarily used for data acquisition with a small number of channels or low sampling rates . This platform has the advantage of being modular, portable and robust in addition to simple control, so that work can also be carried out in harsh environments and with a laptop. Due to the modularity, the system can be adapted to the respective requirements.
The NI CompactRIO platform is intended for control and regulation or higher sampling rates.
The PXI platform is more suitable for data acquisition with a high number of channels or high data rates .
