Computer Live was published by Markt + Technik Verlag and emerged from Happy Computer magazine through conversion. While the latter saw itself as a cross-system publication primarily for home computer fans, Computer Live was designed as a serious PC user magazine.

The new magazine concept was therefore not very well received by the Happy Computer subscribers , who already saw a devaluation of the "Happy" popular among so-called freaks by splitting off the previous part of the game as an independent publication Power Play : the forced conversion of the current Happy Computer subscriptions to Computer Live led to a wave of layoffs, so that Computer Live only had a comparatively short lifespan. It appeared from issue 03/1990 to 11/1992.

The editorial team of Computer Live switched to Computer Personal , which was the "serious" computer magazine of Markt + Technik Verlag as early as the 1980s. In this, some sections of Computer Live were continued.
