Concatamer

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A concatamer (synonymous concatemer ) is a biopolymer with a series of repeating units, e.g. B. repetitive DNA (synonym tandem repeat DNA ) or proteins with repetitive amino acid sequences .

properties

Concatamers form a typical intermediate stage in rolling circle replication . Some viruses (especially bacteriophages ) produce in the course of their replication repetitive sequences of their genome to be packaged in the virion , which - before or during packaging - are split into individual repeat units by viral nucleases .
