Concorde is a cultivar of the cultivated pear ( Pyrus communis ). Concorde was crossed in 1977 at the English fruit growing research institute East Malling Research from the varieties Conference and Vereinsdechant .

The tree was bred to cross the taste of the club dean with the good growth and cultivation properties of the Conference.

Concorde pears are medium to large in size and bottle-shaped, oblong in shape. The rather dry skin is rough and yellowish-green in color. The pulp is half-melting and comparatively crisp. The taste is sweet and subtle, and is reminiscent of melon. The pulp is fine-celled and juicy. The taste of the pear is given good marks at tastings .

The tree is relatively small, the yield above average compared to other pear varieties, but below the yield of the Conference and Alexander Lucas, which are widely used in commercial cultivation . However, Concorde produces larger fruits than Conference, of which more can then be put on the market. The Concorde tree grows upright and compact. Concorde is less susceptible to scab and is generally comparatively resistant to diseases and tolerates pesticides such as sulfur and neem .

Concorde starts earning early in life. The harvest time in Germany is mid to late September. It can be kept until the end of October, and in the CA warehouse until the end of March. Concorde retains its taste in storage, but quickly turns yellow, which consumers often interpret as overripe. The pear prefers warm locations, good soil and additional watering.

The variety carries an Award of Garden Merit from the Royal Horticultural Society . Concorde is one of the few pear varieties bred after 1900 that are used commercially. However, the pear has not yet been able to establish itself on a large scale. Due to their good resistance to pests, however, it is possible that this will still happen in organic farming.
