The Confectionery Museum is a special museum for the bakery and confectionery trade in Kitzingen .

History and description

The Confectionery Museum was opened in 1996. It is located in one of the oldest town houses, a Renaissance half-timbered house on the corner of Marktstrasse 26 and Kaiserstrasse 11, where Philip Grohs opened Kitzingen's first pastry shop in 1831 . It had previously belonged to a gingerbread maker .

What is special about the museum is that most of the exhibits relating to the bakery and confectionery trade come from the house itself, which until 1937 was always owned by confectioners. It has belonged to the Schmitt / Poganietz family since 1893.

Most of the old exhibits date from the 18th and 19th centuries and document the development of a craft. For a long time the historical inventory stood undiscovered in boxes in the attic of the house. Much of it can now be seen in the museum in 24 showcases.
