The Confitería El Molino is a pastry shop in the district of Balvanera in the Argentine capital Buenos Aires . In October 1997 the Art Nouveau building was declared a National Historic Monument. It is located on Avenida Callao , corner of Avenida Rivadavia , north of the Congress Palace .

description

In 1915, Cayetano Brenna, a well-known pastry chef, commissioned the Italian architect Francisco Gianotti to design a house with a café on the ground floor. When it was completed in 1917, it was one of the tallest buildings in the city. Special features were the tower with its electric lighting, the stained glass windows and the windmill blades. The Del Molino and Galería Güemes were two of Gianotti's best works and important examples of Art Nouveau architecture in Buenos Aires.

Over the years the Del Molino has become a popular meeting place for personalities from culture, business and politics. The pastry shop was closed on February 23, 1997 and is only opened today to indicate the need for restoration.
