Connect 17

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Connect 17 (proper spelling Connect17 ) is the campaign - App of the CDU . It was used in state election campaigns and will be used in the 2017 federal election . The app accesses sociological and statistical data and combines them with geographic information for the “door to door” election campaign. In addition, the election campaign for registered users is designed as a kind of competitive game.

The app was presented at the federal party conference in Essen in December 2016. According to the Süddeutscher Zeitung, it takes over "the innovations of the US presidential election campaign in 2016 : the smartphone is the activists' most important instrument and can quickly send the data to headquarters." The app was previously used in various state election campaigns and was aimed at undecided voters.

Connect 17 was specially developed for the street election campaign in which the protagonists go from front door to front door. With the knowledge of where potential CDU voters live, the front door actions should be optimized. The information is based on the results of previous elections and address data that the CDU bought from a data service provider. In addition, socio-demographic information is evaluated by the system that the app accesses.

Another feature of the app is its competitive nature: Anyone who has registered as a supporter receives points for various activities. With “Door to Door”, whoever speaks to as many citizens as possible at the front door is rewarded. Under the item "Social Media", those who post the relevant Facebook posts or send SMS to friends and acquaintances are rewarded. New election workers can be registered under the item “Supporters”. Here, too, the app draws on experiences from the USA, which introduced the competitive, playful character, and calls the aspect " gamification ".
