Constructa is a brand name for large household appliances. At the beginning of the 1950s, the first German household washing machine with a glazed front door (the “porthole”) was developed and launched on the market under this name . In the 1950s and 1960s Constructa was the leading German supplier of fully automatic washing machines.

history

Constructa was founded on January 11, 1951 as the company Peter Pfenningsberg GmbH in Düsseldorf-Oberkassel by the entrepreneur Heinrich Reining . The fully automatic washing machine was presented to the public at the Constructa building fair in Hanover on July 3, 1951 and from then on it was marketed as "Constructa" based on the name of the fair. On February 27, 1958, the company moved to Ratingen-Lintorf . On February 8, 1961, it was renamed "CONSTRUCTA-WERKE-GMBH". Shortly afterwards, Heinrich Reining sold the company to Siemens in 1961. On January 1, 1969, Siemens relocated Constructa's production to Berlin.

Constructa is still known as a brand name today. Distribution is now with Constructa-Neff Vertriebs-GmbH , a subsidiary of BSH Hausgeräte .

The Constructa was the first fully automatic washing machine in Germany. It flooded the laundry, prewashed it, washed it in the main wash cycle, rinsed it in several courses and then spun it. In order to absorb the forces from the unbalance in the spin cycle, it had to be anchored in the ground with four stone screws. After the regular warranty had expired, customers could buy a warranty certificate for 75 marks every three months so that they were insured against major repairs.

A street in Ratingen-Lintorf is named after her.
