Container chassis are chassis for ISO containers , supports and containers, which are secured from below with locking bolts ( twistlocks ). The distances between the container locks result from the ISO standards for sea containers.

A container chassis is moved like a normal truck with a truck . The king pin then connects the chassis to the tractor via the fifth wheel . The articulated lorry has several advantages over other trailers.

Container chassis with a gooseneck: This is used to reduce the loading height and improve the driving characteristics.

The reduction in the loading height of the entire vehicle resulted from the fact that the ISO container (sea container) was increased in design to increase the loading capacity (high-cube container) . This resulted in a total height when loading onto the flat container chassis that had been used until then, which in many parts of the world (for example in Europe and the USA) exceeded the nationally prescribed total heights or the usual height restrictions. This new container design received a cutout (tunnel) in the front area of ​​the base plate of the container, which slips over the gooseneck of the chassis and thus reduces the overall height.

Sliding carriage chassis

Multi-chassis
