Contax 645
The Contax 645 was one of Kyocera offered from 1998 medium format - SLR camera with auto focus in the format 6 x 4.5 cm, as camera system with interchangeable viewfinders, alternating shims could be equipped, Zeiss lenses and film magazines.
General
The camera had a focal plane shutter with 32 s to 1/4000 s exposure times, mirror lock-up, motorized transport and eyepiece shutter. A special feature was a ceramic film pressure plate in a vacuum film insert with openings through which the film could be sucked onto this plate in order to improve the flatness. The camera housing is compatible with the digital back panels from Phase One , Leaf and others.
The production of the Contax 645 was discontinued by Kyocera together with the entire camera production in 2005.
Carl Zeiss AG, which also supplied the lenses for the C645 system, holds the rights to the “Contax” brand name. Due to the contractual agreements with Kyocera, it is not possible for Carl Zeiss AG to use the brand name for potential future new editions of Contax cameras.
