Cutaway model of the Marboré II engine

The Turboméca Marboré was a small turbojet engine from the Turboméca company that was produced between the 1950s and 1970s. It was used most often in the Fouga Magister and the Morane-Saulnier MS.760 “Paris”. It was also produced under license in the United States as the Continental Teledyne J69 for the Cessna T-37 . A Spanish license production was designated as the M 21.

history

The first larger production version was the Marboré II , which achieved a maximum thrust of 3.9 kN at the very high speed of 22,500 rpm. In its simplest form it was a single-shaft turbojet engine with a radial compressor and a single-stage turbine, the fuel consumption being around 109 gal / h. The engine was produced in different variants for the military or civilian market, which differed in the oil tank design, the auxiliary and ancillary units and the thruster configuration. Some variants had an additional axial compressor to increase performance. All these variants differ according to the components used in their dimensions, their weight (mostly around 140 kg) and their performance.

The Marboré II was finally replaced in 1962 by the Marboré VI series, which was a bit more powerful (4.8 kN), with fuel consumption only increasing slightly to 119 gal / h. This represented a 23% increase in thrust with only a 9% increase in fuel consumption. As a result, the Marboré II engines were replaced by Marboré VI on a number of aircraft, which in turn meant that the old engines could be used for test purposes for little money were available in the market.

The original Marboré and the Marboré III, IV and V were not manufactured in large numbers. More than 4,300 of the Marboré II and almost 1200 of the Marboré VI were built, and more than 10,000 of the licensed J69 series, of which more than 6900 were for the AQM-34 , BQM-34 and Ryan Firebee target display and reconnaissance drones .

At the end of 2007, the maintenance of the engines and thus their civil approval in Europe was discontinued.
