Coolnatullagh
The Wedge Tomb of Coolnatullagh ( Irish Cúl na Tulcha , German "back of the hill" ) is located on Gortaclare Mountain in the Burren , in the north of County Clare in Ireland , about 300 m from the road, from where it is because of the countless boulders and the Vegetation can hardly be seen. Wedge Tombs ( German "Keilgräber" , formerly also called "wedge-shaped gallery grave") are double-walled, aisle-free, mostly undivided megalithic buildings from the late Neolithic and early Bronze Age .
description
It is in poor condition. It is in the northern part of the Burren at the head of a valley that runs northeast from the Carron Depression to the Slieve Carran. In 1995 or 1996 the stone mound was damaged by an excavator.
The round stone mound has a diameter of 16 m, it stands up to a height of one meter above the level of the surroundings. The eastern third of the stone mound has been completely excavated. Part of the once grass-covered cairn has been preserved. T. J. Westropp narrated that a small cross-shaped stone once stood in the megalithic complex. Two stone boxes , one containing human remains, were discovered nearby.
