Copperbelt Energy Corporation (CEC) is a public company based in Zambia . It was spun off and privatized from Zambia Energy Corporation in 1997. Which in turn was founded as the Power Division of Zambia Consolidated Copper Mines in the 1950s. It has a share capital of US $ 10 million and a dollar face value. is 20 percent owned in 2006 by Zambia Consolidated Copper Mines Investment Holdings , some Zambian engineers in that company and, as of February 22, 2006, 77 percent by Zambia Energy Corporation . They were previously owned by National Grid Company, UK, and Power International, USA. Copperbelt Energy Corporation is quoted, not traded , on the Lusaka Stock Exchange . It is based at Kitwe , 23rd Avenue Nkana East.

Copperbelt Energy Corporation is organizing power distribution to Zambia's privatized copper mines in the Copperbelt. She buys the electricity from the state-owned Zambia Electricity Supply Corporation (ZESCO) and sells it on to her customers. CEC has a supply network of 880 kilometers. These include 802 kilometers of 220 kV and 66 kV lines, 1,275 MVA of 220/66 transformer capacity and an 80 MW gas turbine power plant. CEC distributes 60 percent of Zambia's electricity, 450 MW of which goes to copper production, up to 500 MW to the Democratic Republic of the Congo and 240 MW to ZESCO. 1,600 MW will be supplied from the north bank of the Kariba Dam and the Kafue Dam .

Copperbelt Energy Corporation is also active in the expansion of the fiber optic network in Zambia, of which it operates 520 kilometers.
