Corbie-Ha

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Corbie-Ha is a former working farm in the Scottish town of Milngavie in East Dunbartonshire . In 1971 the building was included in the Scottish List of Monuments , Category B.

history

The farm was recorded in the real estate cadastre from 1807. It was probably built around 1800. At the time, it was the only building west of Main Street and could be the oldest surviving building in downtown Milngavier. The property extended west from Allander Water and bordered Craigdhu Road to the north . The last residents left the building in 1966 with the Watt family . The cottage was initially due to be demolished, but was then made available to the Milngavie Pipe Band , which eventually acquired it in 1972. In the following years electrical installations and central heating were installed. Today Corbie-Ha houses an event room with around 60 seats, which can also be rented. In January 2013 £ 2000 was made available to repair the house.

description

It is an elongated, one-story building. It is of a simple design, plastered and whitewashed. Corbie-Ha ends with a slate-covered gable roof . Originally the roof was probably thatched .
