Corinth and Counce Railroad

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Corinth and Counce Railroad (CCRC), from 1991 TennRail (TRC), was an American shortline railroad company based in Counce (Tennessee).

history

The Tennessee River Pulp and Paper Company planned to build a paper mill in Counce (Tennessee) on the Tennessee River near the Pickwick Landing Dam in 1958/1959 . To connect with the rail network, the Corinth and Counce Railroad was founded on November 26, 1958. The owners were identical to the owners of the paper mill ( Packaging Corporation of America , Cornell Paper Board Products, Bell Fiber Products). Equity was $ 750,000.

The company built a 25-kilometer railway line between Counce and Corinth . In the latter place there was the transition to the Illinois Central Railroad , the Gulf Mobile and Ohio Railroad and the Southern Railway . Operations started on August 21, 1959. In 1961 the paper mill started production. On February 27, 1970, the paper mill and the railway company were completely taken over by the PCA. In 1974 the state of Mississippi built a port (Yellow Creek Port) on Yellow Creek. To connect the port, a 16-kilometer branch line was built from Sharp (Mississippi) and opened on July 1, 1974.

On December 31, 1991, the Corinth and Counce Railroad was taken over by MidSouth for $ 32 million and continued as TennRail. In 1993 the parent company of TennRail, MidSouth Corporation was taken over by Kansas City Southern Industries. As a result, the operation of the railroad lines went to the Kansas City Southern Railway on January 1, 1994 .
