history

The band was founded in 1997 by Diane Micallef (vocals), Shawn Abela (guitar, keyboard), Cliff Smith (bass) and Franco Aloisio (drums) and was expanded to include Lincoln Spiteri (guitar, synthesizer programming) in 2000.

In June 2002 the album Micromania was released . The album was recorded with Shawn Abela (guitar, keyboard), who left the band shortly afterwards. In terms of sound, Micromania was based on disco pop. The CD was one of the best-selling albums in Malta and reached number five in the Maltese album charts in 2002 , seven tracks were released as a single. As a result of the publication, Corkskrew acted as the opening act for various international artists during their performances in Malta and toured Austria in 2004 as part of the band: union project .

In 2004 the second album No Ordinary Maybe was released , which is much more oriented towards independent pop .

Corkskrew contributed six recordings to the soundtrack of the Malta-produced film Genesis . The soundtrack received the 2001 Soundtrack Award from the New York International Independent Film & Video Festival and the Los Angeles Film Festival . The band was the first Maltese musical group whose songs were presented on the iTunes Internet portal .
