Cornelius (Prosecutor)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Cornelius was a Roman who lived in Rome during the reign of Emperor Tiberius .

Cornelius was not a senator . He gained notoriety in 34 when he and Servilius accused Mamercus Aemilius Scaurus of alleged adultery with Livia and also taking part in magicians' events. They acted as representatives in a power struggle of the followers of Lucius Aelius Seianus and Quintus Naevius Sutorius Macro on the Macros side. According to Tacitus , like his co-prosecutor, he was banished to an island and ostracized that same year. The reason was that they had failed to report Varius Ligur in exchange for a cash payment .
