The Cornell University Press in Ithaca , New York is the oldest university press in the United States of America .

The publishing house was founded in 1869, but temporarily ceased operations from 1884 to 1930. Therefore, the Johns Hopkins University Press is considered the oldest continuously active US university publisher. The publishing house has its origins in the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at Cornell University , as the engineers working there were familiar with printing press technology. More than 150 titles are published every year. This makes Cornell University Press one of the largest university publishers in the country.
