Corona muralis

The Corona Muralis (Latin: corona , dt. Crown, murus , dt. Wall, to " wall crown ") was an award of the Roman army .

It was shaped like wall battlements and was one of the most coveted awards for soldiers. The Corona Muralis was awarded during a city siege to whoever was the first to storm the city walls of an enemy city. According to the records of Polybius , it was made of gold, had the shape of a city wall with a city gate and was attached to the head of the bearer with a ribbon. In the imperial era it was mainly awarded to centurions .
