from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Corral de la Veleta (also Corral del Veleta ) was the southernmost glacier in Europe until its disappearance in the middle of the 20th century and was located near the 3,396 m high Pico del Veleta , the second highest peak of the Sierra Nevada in southern Spain. Today the ground in the Corral de la Veleta area is still characterized by permafrost , but there is no permanent ice cover.
