Festa dei Ceri (2000)

The Festa dei Ceri ("Wax Candle Run") of Gubbio is a race in honor of the Saints Ubald of Gubbio , George and Antonius , who supported the city of Gubbio in the war against other cities.

The Corsa dei Ceri is celebrated on May 15th, the day before Sant'Ubaldo. The winner must always be Sant'Ubaldo, as he is the city's saint. Therefore, the Corsa dei Ceri is also called "the run of the crazy", because the end is already fixed at the beginning of the run.

Flag and coat of arms of the Umbria region

The current coat of arms of the Umbria region was determined in 1971 as the winner of a competition. It shows - symbolically simple and clear - three red candles. These are the "tre Ceri di Gubbio", the three candles from Gubbio.
