|
Cosmic Coasters is a board game designed by Andrew Looney . Cosmic Coasters won the Origins Award 2001 in the Best Abstract Board Game category .
description
matchfield
Two normal beer mats, which are provided with a line symbol pattern, function as playing fields . The lines form a cross in a circle. In the middle of the cross is the symbol of the teleporting station (a circle). Four squares and four triangles are arranged alternately on the outer circle. The triangles are "energy fields", the squares are "factories". Each beer mat represents a space colony with four “factories”, four “energy fields” and a “teleporter”. Each player has seven tokens, for example coins of the same name, which are distributed on their own beer mat.
Course of the game
Players take turns drawing. In each turn they can use the teleporter, build spaceships and move from field to field.
The options:
- Teleport: As long as a player is the only one occupying two or more energy fields on a beer mat, he can beam a coin from the teleport field to the other beer mat, or catapult it into space. If there is already a coin on the target space, it is destroyed.
- Construction: as long as a player controls the two energy fields next to an empty factory and he has a spare coin, he can place a coin on this factory space.
- Move: A player can move a coin from one field to an adjacent field. If this is already occupied , a result is determined with scissors, stone, paper :
- Attacker wins : The defender's coin ends up in space
- Attacker and defender tied : The defender's coin ends up in space, but the attacker is not allowed to move onto the space that has become free
- Defender wins : Both coins remain on the original spaces
victory
The player who teleports back to his planet first wins.
