Cotton-wool stains

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Cotton-wool stains , also known as cotton-wool patches or cotton-wool patches , are changes in the fundus caused by eye diseases (e.g. central vein thrombosis ) or general diseases such as diabetes mellitus , high blood pressure , collagenoses or HIV . When examining the fundus of the eye ( ophthalmoscopy ), white, blurred ("cotton-like", hence the name) spots can be seen. The cause is capillary occlusions of the retina with ischemic axoplasm congestion.
