Cottown School

The Cottown School is a former school building in the Scottish hamlet of Cottown in the Council Area Perth and Kinross . In 1971 the structure was included in the Scottish monument lists in the highest monument category A.

history

The school building was built around 1745. It was in use until 1985. The Cotown School has been empty since then. In 1991 the building was inscribed on the Scotland List of Endangered Structures. In 2014, his condition was classified as poor with low risk at the same time. It is owned by the National Trust for Scotland . Various substance-preserving measures were carried out in the 1990s. Moisture drawing into the walls and thick vegetation were described as the most pressing problems. As part of a comprehensive architectural archaeological study, parts of the building were under water after heavy rain.

The Cottown School is in the middle of the hamlet Cottown a few hundred meters west of St Madoes . It is one of the few remaining clay buildings in the region. The one-story building closes with a thatched roof. The classroom was on the east side.
