Crackdown is an action game from Realtime Worlds that was released on February 23, 2007 for the Xbox 360 . Crackdown takes over many elements known from GTA such as B. a freely accessible city and the possibility to use all vehicles. In contrast to GTA, however, Crackdown is set in a futuristic scenario.

action

A fictional city called Pacific City is doomed by criminal gangs. A short introductory intro explains that three leading criminal gangs have formed over time:

  • Los Muertos ("The Dead") is a Spanish gang that controls one of the three island sections of Pacific City,
  • Wolk is a kind of Russian mafia that controls the second island,
  • Shai Gen are a Chinese gang that own the last of the three islands

The only form of resistance is the so-called Agency , a kind of police. Their headquarters are in the middle of the three island areas of Pacific City and are called The Construction . The Agency gets involved with an unscrupulous doctor who creates so-called agents . These agents are super policemen who are endowed with outstanding skills.

game

The player takes on the role of an agent. He can improve his agent in five skill categories:

  • Agility (running fast and jumping high)
  • Driving (faster reflexes)
  • Explosives (larger explosion radius)
  • Weapons (closer aim)
  • Power (stronger melee attacks and more HP)

The main goal is to eliminate the leaders of the three criminal organizations.

Similar to GTA, a lot in Crackdown is left to the player. There are also subplots and tasks that the player can pursue. In contrast to GTA, however, Crackdown has no story elements that interact directly with the player, such as dialogues or cutscenes. Rather, his only source of information or story is a kind of communicator, through which he receives information about the individual opponents.

indexing

The BPjM had indexed the title in April 2007 with immediate effect. An indexing proves the game with a distribution and advertising ban. The video game was unindexed in May 2017.

Second part

Crackdown 2 adopts the third-person shooter game principle in an open world from its predecessor. The story begins ten years after the events of the first game. Pacific City is in ruins and overrun by mutated freaks. The player controls agent, a member of a city-funded agency that is supposed to keep order. The mutated freaks are supported by an anti-agency group called Cell and organize themselves into a heavily armed terrorist group. Most of the targets in the main campaign focus on the ground, fighting the mutant freaks at night and against the cell during the day. The story itself is usually told through audio logs that can be found while exploring the city.

development

The game is developed by Ruffian Games and not by Realtime Worlds like its predecessor. However, Ruffian was formed with a number of Realtime Worlds employees. Crackdown 2 was placed on list A of the index by the BPjM from the end of 2010 to July 2017 .

third part

Crackdown 3 was first announced as an Xbox One Exclusive on E3 2014. Further details were announced at Gamescom 2015 on August 7, 2015.

A release date for Crackdown 3 was officially announced at E3 2017 . Crackdown 3 was initially due to be released on November 1, 2017 for Xbox One and Windows 10, but was later postponed to 2018. After another postponement, the game was released on February 15, 2019.
