Cran (unit)

The cran was an English measure of volume. A container of 45 gallons (imperial) of non-gutted fish was calculated as the fish size.

  • 1 cran = 204.456 liters of fish not gutted, equivalent to 700 fresh herrings
  • 1 cran = 1 barrel = 37 ½ gallons = 170.38 liters of gutted salted fish, equivalent to 850 herrings
