The 1882 reported by Robert Munro (1835-1920) crannóg is high and dry on the of sycamore and holly covered Heron Isle ( German  "Egret Island" ). The mound of earth and stone is about 18.0 m in diameter and was disrupted by excavations in the early 1870s. It now appears as a round, 1.5 m high mound of earth lying around a hollowed-out center, which is located on an at least partially artificial oval island made of boulders, which measures approximately 45.0 × 30.0 m. The edge of the boulder is about 10.0 m from the island and disappears into the silt at a depth of about 3 or 4 m. Found artifacts date back to the first-2. Century AD

The White Loch dugout canoe was found in the neighboring White Loch in 1870 .
