The Crary Ice Rise is an ice dome in the south-central part of the Ross Ice Shelf off the Siple Coast in the Antarctic Ross Dependency . It looms between Roosevelt Island and the Transantarctic Mountains .
Scientists from the Ross Ice Shelf Project explored and named the ice dome as part of the United States Antarctic Research Program in the 1970s . It is named after the American geophysicist Albert P. Crary (1911–1997), who from 1957 worked in various positions in Antarctica .
