The Crichton Farm is a farm in the Scottish town of Dumfries in the Council Area Dumfries and Galloway . In 1986 the structure was included in the Scottish monument lists in the highest monument category A.

The farm is located on the southern edge of Dumfries. It was built between 1890 and 1893 as part of the facilities of the Crichton Royal Hospital . John Davidson , who works for the hospital, was responsible for the design and obtained information from a previous visit to two similar facilities in Scotland.

description

The system, which consists of two complexes, has a progressive structure at the time of construction. The main complex in the north consists of four elongated buildings that completely enclose an inner courtyard. The symmetrically constructed north facade is designed with pseudo reinforcement. In the middle, a clock tower with a doorway rises above the two-story, elongated building. The doorway is now closed with masonry so that only the doorway on the opposite side can be used. The edges of the square are also worked with corner towers with stepped gables . Window openings are designed with cornices . In the inner courtyard, various segment-arched gates lead into the interior.

Five elongated buildings are arranged in parallel on the barn complex in the south. The masonry consists of embossed , red stone blocks that were built into a layered masonry . The final gable roofs are covered with slate and worked with stepped gables. As in the main complex, the windows close with segmental arches. Two other elongated buildings extend to the east. The interior walls are tiled. A flat wall with steel fence partially surrounds the facility.
