Cristina Mittermeier b. Goettsch (born November 26, 1966 in Mexico City ) is a Mexican-American environmental photographer and founder of the ILCP.

Life

She studied marine biology at the Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey , but soon turned to photography. The founding of the International League of Conservation Photographers (ILCP) by Cristina Mittermeier in 2005 is now considered the official establishment of environmental photography as a separate discipline. Mittermeier gathered more than 40 environmental photographers at the 8th World Wilderness Congress in Anchorage , Alaska , for a symposium and together with them founded the ILCP as a lobby group and independent non-profit organization . Since then, the ILCP has been organizing photo expeditions and supporting environmental groups by licensing ILCP photographers' images.

Cristina Mittermeier has been one of the Sony Artisans of Imagery since 2008 .

She has been married to Russell Mittermeier , an American anthropologist , since 1991 . The couple have two sons.
