Cristo Rei (Garajau)
The Christo-Rei statue in Madeira worships Christ the King . It stands at Ponta do Garajau on a ledge between Caniço and Funchal . A cable car leads down from the plateau to the beach. The statue was built in the 1920s and inaugurated on October 30, 1927. It was financed by the lawyer Aires de Ornelas and his wife. It was created by the French sculptor Serraz Georges .
