Crom Castle

Crom Castle ( Irish Caisleán na Croime ) is a castle on the banks of Upper Lough Erne in County Fermanagh, Northern Ireland . It is located in an estate of 7.7 km². The current castle was built in Victorian style in 1840 . The castle is privately owned by the Crichton family . In the west wing private wedding celebrations can be held or it can be rented for private events.

Crom Old Castle ( Seanchaisleán na Croime ), the ruins of an old residential tower built in 1611 by the Balfour family , Scottish “planters” (colonizers), is also on the Crom Castle estate . The Crichton family , the Earls of Erne , later acquired the land and castle. The castle, which survived two Jacobite sieges, burned down in 1764. Crom Old Castle is listed as a Scheduled Monument along with its garden .

Crom Estate

The property is managed by the National Trust . There are many facilities from ancient times, such as B. old farms, a boathouse, which was once home to the Lough Erne Yacht Club , a tea house, the church, a school house and more.

On TV

The television production Blandings based on PG Wodehouse was filmed on Crom Castle by the BBC in 2013 .
