Cross-Border Intraday Market Project

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The cross-border Intraday Market Project ( Xbid ) is a project of the European Commission with the aim of establishing an intraday - trading platform for continuous transnational power transfer capacity within the European interconnected system . The basis for this was laid with the “Capacity Allocation and Congestion Management” (CACM) guideline .

implementation

The European power exchanges APX , Belpex , EPEX SPOT , GME, Nord Pool Spot and OMIE as well as transmission system operators from 12 member countries have therefore been working on the implementation of the directive since 2010 .

The first trading, auctioning and allocation of these transmission capacities are scheduled to begin in early 2018.

Goal of the introduction

It is hoped that trading at the future XBID will:

  • better synchronization of the previously different forms of trading in electricity and balancing energy
  • Implementation of pricing mechanisms for the provision of transmission capacity
  • better congestion management in the transnational power grids
  • greater integration of renewable energies in the electricity market

Overall, this should make electricity trading within the EU more efficient, i. This means that if, for example, a spot electricity price is lower in an EU country, this should result in higher sales of electricity in neighboring countries with a higher spot electricity price, which has not always been the case up to now. In addition, the costs of providing transmission capacity have not yet been factored in.
