Cross-river estuary refers to an estuary in Cameroon and Nigeria .

location

It is the mouth of the Cross River , which merges with the Calabar River and the Akpa Yafi in the port city of Calabar into a wide bay. It is located in the region of the Bay of Biafra, which has been called the Bay of Bonny since 1970 . The Cross River estuary is separated from the neighboring Rio del Rey estuary by the Bakassi Peninsula , but is nevertheless connected to it by several canals.

The estuary lagoon of the Cross River was discovered and explored by Portuguese sailors in the 15th century.
