Crypticus quisquilius is a beetle from the family of black beetles (Tenebrionidae).
features
The black beetles grow to be 4.5–6 mm long. The bald beetles are egg-shaped. The cylindrical larvae reach a length of 12 mm.
distribution
Crypticus quisquilius occurs in the Palearctic . The distribution area extends from Europe via Russia and the Caucasus to Mongolia . In Europe the species is widespread and mostly common. Crypticus quisquilius is the only representative of its genus in Central Europe.
Way of life
The beetles can be found on grasses in steppe and sand biotopes. They often stay in dry, sandy places under stones and plants and can run very nimble across the ground. Crypticus quisquilius feeds on detritus .
