Customer premises equipment

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The term Customer Premises Equipment ( CPE .., Engl for "equipment in customer premises," dt subscriber network device ) refers to a subscriber - terminal in a computer network , a telephone network or telephone systems .

These terminals, whose legal owner is usually the end user or customer, are connected to a telephone or data network ( Internet or LAN ). Phones , fax machines, and modems are the most common CPE devices. In the DSL context, CPE is used to designate DSL modems ; based on this, the WiMAX modem is also called CPE in wireless broadband WiMAX technology.
