Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism
The term Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism ( C-TPAT ) describes a voluntary US initiative for supply chain security against terrorism . C-TPAT can be seen as the US counterpart to the European Authorized Economic Operator (AEO).
history
C-TPAT was initiated in November 2001 by the United States Customs and Border Protection (CBP) . Several thousand companies are now taking part in the initiative.
Content
Participating companies receive a special status by adhering to certain security measures. In return, they are made easier with customs clearance.
Mutual recognition
Customs programs from other countries are not readily recognized. Among other things, there are agreements with Japan and Korea. Mutual recognition is a long and difficult process if all parties involved represent their interests appropriately. The AEO status acquired in EU member states has been recognized since July 2012. Negotiations on this began in 2005.
