Cuyo

As Cuyo refers to a region in western Argentina . It is a dry, steppe-like zone with some oases that borders the Andes . The regional capital is Mendoza .

Mostly the provinces of Mendoza , San Juan and San Luis are referred to with the term , which have now merged to form the Cuyo region . In some documents the provinces of La Rioja and Catamarca are also included (also called "Nuevo Cuyo"). However, the province of Catamarca officially belongs to the Región Norte Grande and is mostly counted to northwestern Argentina .

Viticulture is considered particularly characteristic of the Cuyo region . Economically, the Cuyo is in the middle of Argentina, especially the province of San Luis has developed from a poor house to a relatively affluent area since 1980.
