Defense de la langue française

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Défense de la langue française is an association founded in 1958 to protect the French language . Its name was chosen based on the font La Deffence, et Illustration de la Langue Francoyse by the poet Joachim du Bellay .

Club and goal

The aim of the association, the protection of the mother tongue , is similar to that of the Association of German Language (VDS), which works in partnership with the association. It is in the interests of Germany and France to work together to prevent the postulated " hegemony of the English language ".

The association is directed against an "invasion of English words " and for strengthening the importance of the French language in international institutions.

No official mandate

The official and state institutionalized mandate to preserve and maintain the French language does not lie with this association, but with the Académie Française . In contrast to associations that are not institutionalized by the state, their definitions of the correct use of the French language are binding.
