The Dürkopp MD 200 is a motorcycle from Dürkoppwerke , Bielefeld, which was built between 1952 and the end of 1954. It has a 196 cm³ engine, a three-speed gearbox with foot shift and a welded tubular frame.

The engine of the MD 200 was designed by Fritz Gosslau , the chief designer at Dürkopp at the time. The wind-cooled two-stroke engine with flat pistons developed 10.2 HP (7.5 kW) at 5500 rpm. With a 61 mm stroke and 64 mm bore, it was designed with a short stroke . A 26 mm twin slide carburetor from Bing prepared the mixture. As soon as the kick starter is actuated, the transmission automatically disengages - both when starting as well as while driving - a neutral gear that can be actuated with the lower leg , so to speak . The hydraulically damped telescopic front fork had developed itself Dürkopp. It has 140 mm of travel, the straight-line suspension of the rear wheel 60 mm. The brake hubs also came from Dürkopp - "powerfully gripping 150 mm inner-shoe brakes with aluminum cooling fins", as the advertising said. The top speed of the MD 200 was 96 km / h.

The MD 150 model with a 150 cm³ two-stroke engine with 7.5 HP (5.5 kW) at 5200 rpm and a top speed of 90 km / h was available in parallel and probably appeared earlier. It also had 19-inch wheels, but not the closed chain case of the MD 200.

In many respects, the design went back to a prototype with the designation M 12 from 1938, which was not allowed to be built due to the type limitation by the Schell Plan . The engine design goes back to a drive of an Argus target aircraft designed by Gosslau around 1936 . At Ardie it was built in a similar form for the 175 cm³ (BD 176) and 250 cm³ class (BD 252); Because Ardie and Dürkopp belonged to the same group for a time, there was an increased cooperation

Many racing successes contributed to the good reputation of these MD 150 / MD 200 models. The contemporary press and Dürkopp's self-promotion celebrated these motorcycles as “the fastest machines in their class”.

At the end of 1954, Dürkopp stopped production of the MD series. About 10,000 of the MD 200 were built between 1952 and 1954, and around 17,890 of the MD 150. The price of the MD 200 was 1,535 DM, for the luxury version a surcharge of 60 DM was required.

The engine was further developed and with a displacement of 172 cm³ (bore 60 mm, stroke 61 mm) and fan cooling in the Dürkopp Diana TS scooter, it achieved almost 11 hp; the Diana scooter appeared in 1954 with a 200 cc engine and 10-inch wheels.
