Dělnická Tělovýchovná Jednota

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Dělnická Tělovýchovná Jednota (DTJ; translated workers gymnastics club ) was founded in 1897 as a result of a political conflict within the Czech Sokol organization.

The members of the Czech Social Democratic Party , which had become independent in 1894 , came into conflict with the Sokol community, which was dominated by national patriotism, which is why they left the organization or were excluded. They created their own workers' gymnastics club (Dělnická Tělovýchovná Jednota - DTJ), which was only accessible to social democrats and could quickly establish itself among them. DTJ decidedly refused to work with Sokol or the Catholic gymnastics club Orel , founded in 1909 .
