The DAR-10 ( Bulgarian ДАР-10) was a Bulgarian multipurpose aircraft that was built around 1939. It was the only aircraft designed and built entirely in Bulgaria to be used during World War II . The aircraft had a rigid undercarriage and was also produced in small numbers as a two-seat dive fighter aircraft .
history
Development work began in 1939 at the DAR factory in Sofia and was carried out by Tsvetan Lazarow. The aircraft was designed as a cantilever low- wing aircraft with a rigid, aerodynamically lined landing gear. The hull consisted of metal tubes and was clad with sheet metal in the bow area and otherwise covered with fabric. The wings consisted of wooden spars with plywood planking. In addition to reconnaissance tasks , the type was also intended to be used as a light bomber , which is why devices for taking up to 500 kg bomb load were attached under the wings. The offensive armament consisted of two German 20 mm MG FF automatic cannons in the wings and two 7.92 mm MG 17 in the wing nacelles. The observer / gunner also received a rear-firing movable MG 17.
Two prototypes were created. The DAR-10A was built in Lovech and equipped with an Alfa Romeo 128 RC engine. The other DAR-10F came from the DAR Boshurishche plant and received a Fiat A.74 RC-38 engine. The first flight took place in early 1941, and series production started in 1943. Since the production capacities of DAR were very limited, only a small, unknown number of DAR-10s were produced that were used in a squadron. The Bulgarian government decided instead to procure German Junkers Ju 87s .
