The on Gottfried Schenker declining brand Schenker came in 2002 with the acquisition of Stinnes AG in the consolidated German railway . Under the DB Schenker brand , Deutsche Bahn AG manages all of the DB Group's transport and logistics services (with the exception of rail freight transport, which is organized in the DB Cargo business unit ).
The brand itself is used by the Deutsche Bahn subsidiary Schenker AG and the affiliated national companies. In external communication, Schenker AG and all the companies in the group appear as DB Schenker .
history
In his biography, the then CEO of Deutsche Bahn, Hartmut Mehdorn , justified the acquisitions of international logistics companies with the requirements of freight transport customers. An analysis in 2000 showed that the company's 200 top-selling customers delivered up to 60 percent of their freight abroad. Since the core area of the railway was in Germany, customers were lost to competitors who were better positioned there. There was not enough time for independent growth in these markets. This analysis also led to the acquisition of Stinnes AG in 2002 and the associated takeover of the Schenker brand .
In 2013, DB Schenker received the WorldStar Packaging Award from the World Packaging Organization for particularly safe reusable transport packaging and the Daimler Supplier Award for contract logistics for above-average logistics services. Both prizes are awarded annually.
Since 2016, DB Cargo , formerly DB Schenker Rail , no longer operates under the DB Schenker brand, but acts as an equal business area within the Bahn Group.
