The DIN standard DIN 1306 defines the density and the associated terms and information. It is a pure norm of definition ; it contains the German terms on the topic of density and their English equivalents.

The standard was first published in August 1938 under the title “Density and Weight; Terms ". More recent editions were published in August 1958, July 1966, March 1967, and December 1971. The current edition was published in June 1984 and is entitled “Density; Terms, information ".

Compared to the previous edition of December 1971, the homogeneous material portions and weights have been included, explanations have been deleted and the standard has been completely revised editorially. However, there was already in the first edition a section on "Non-homogeneous body," which recommended: "If necessary, is between bulk density and true density and correspondingly between Rohwichte and light unit weight differentiate depending on whether in the determination of volume pores are counted or not?" .
